CALIFORNIA GROUND SQUIRRELS @ PETERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL FIELD IN SUNNYVALE

On 26 October 2017 as I was exercising at the Peterson field; I spoke to a Birdland neighbor who saw me looking at the tags marking various ground squirrel burrows around the field. (see photos below) I heard from neighbors that the wildlife habitat at the Peterson field was now being protected as an extension of the Peterson nature area (something I have repeatedly suggested for years) and that the SCUSD hired a new wildlife biologist to oversee operations at the field. So I initially thought these markers were to protect the ground squirrels until I looked a little closer yesterday and learned the truth. Ground squirrels at the Peterson field are being mass poisoned once again; and local dogs who run at the field have been falling ill in the last week or so from this applied poison.

 Now that Full Circle Farm is gone; it is becoming quite apparent that even though the farm was not financially solvent; they ran their operations with more of a heart for the animals and wildlife at the Peterson field than the new operators. I have spoken to the new farmer and he seems like a nice enough guy; but even nice people allow bad things to occur sometimes. And this may not have even been his idea as the SCUSD has been doing this same thing repeatedly for a long time; and Principal Susan Harris and/or the SCUSD grounds maintenance crew is likely behind it.

Note: With all the recent talk about the Trump administration retaliating against whistle blowers (VA whistle blowers; scientists etc) it should be of grave concern to many that a political enemy has been focused upon by the SCUSD and/or Principal Susan Harris then repeatedly retaliated against for activism. Not only did Principal Susan Harris allegedly directly retaliate against Lik Roper after getting actively involved in the political process in the early 2000s -- but Mister Roper also ended up as a "targeted individual" and/or "T.I." (police-sponsored harassment; stalking; menacing etc). The bottom line is science shows that California ground squirrels are an important keystone species worthy of increased protections; and the actions as of late are proof that largely Democratically controlled regions like the Santa Clara Valley suppress scientific knowledge as well.

8 nov 2011 @ 7:24 AM -- The dog seen on the left mysteriously fell ill and was put to sleep after dangerous pesticides were applied to the Peterson field a few years back. A tumor appeared in the dogs' nose which he used to sniff around on the field where the poison was applied. Can anyone say LAWSUIT?

The Peterson field has red tailed hawks that have frequented this spot for many years; a last vestige of biologically diverse wildlife habitat left on the Santa Clara Valley floor. Small song birds have been seen exiting the ground Squirrel burrows at the Peterson field on particularly cold mornings; and at one point in time endangered burrowing owls lived at the field as well. But due to lax environmental protections by the City of Sunnyvale etc they have disappeared from this parcel.  The last known burrowing owl was seen at the Raynor Park kiddie playground. 

The City of Sunnyvale actually closed the Raynor playground for one breeding season; but failed to continue protecting the owls -- and since then they have disappeared from this area. When the Full Circle Farm first began operations at the field; there was a burrowing owl living right under a large shipping storage container -- but the container was moved without knowledge of the nest and burrowing owls have been gone from the Peterson field ever since then. Where is the outrage?

QUESTIONS: Why was the Peterson field closed last time they mass slaughtered ground squirrels a few years back (which caused the Full Circle Farm to lose it's organic certification) and/or why are dangerous pesticides that are known to be harmful to humans still applied at elementary schools where children frequent?
